The Meeting Place Adult Day Service to Open on Saturdays
NEWPORT – The Meeting Place adult day service will initiate a Saturday program beginning on November 15th and running through December 20th. The goal will be to provide an extra day of care for senior clients, and extra weekend time during the holidays when family members may be engaged in holiday shopping and other activities.
“Our clients have been asking for some weekend time,” said Theresa McAvinney, RN and Director of The Meeting Place. “We have also heard from family caregivers who would like a few hours on the weekend to get caught up on errands, shopping and other personal needs.”
The center at 100 Second Street in Newport will be open from 10:00 each Saturday morning until 2:30 in the afternoon. Hours may be extended if there is sufficient demand. Reservations for Saturday attendance must be made before 4:00 pm each Thursday. Clients will have lunch at The Meeting Place and there will be scheduled activities including games, exercise and social events.
The Meeting Place is a Vermont-approved program for adults who benefit from socialization and activity, and who cannot be safely left home alone. The Meeting Place is fully wheelchair accessible, and is prepared to deal with a full range of needs including special diets, frailty, dementia and Alzheimers.
The Meeting Place is a division of Northeast Kingdom Homecare, Inc.. For more information on The Meeting Place call 334-7604.
