OPEN EVENTS AT THE MEETING PLACE
Short Plays for the Long Living to be performed on Wednesday
NEWPORT – The Meeting Place, a state certified Adult Day Service, will host two public events for seniors as part of Aging In Place Week. These events will be at The Meeting Place, 100 Second Street, in Newport.
On Wednesday, October 3, 2007, The Barton Senior Center Players will perform two one-act plays from Short Plays for the Long Living. The first play, Meals on Wheels, stars Barton-resident, Arlene Brooks (age 93 1/2) and Roger Shaffer, also of Barton. The second play: Autumn Drive, stars Marielle Arel of Barton and Greg Tocci of Orleans. Brenda Sargent, Director of the Barton Senior Center is coordinating the performance which will begin at 10:30 am.
The plays will be performed on the second floor of The Meeting Place in what was formerly the Baptist church. A DVD of the original three play performance will be available downstairs and shown to seniors who are unable to climb stairs. After the performance, attendees will be invited to stay for lunch – an old fashioned turkey dinner. Space is limited to 25 people and reservations are required. Call 334-7604.
On Friday, October 5th, The Meeting Place will host “Spa Day” as a way of introducing area seniors to some of the activities that take place at the facility. “Pretty Up for Pumpkins” is the theme of this event, coinciding with the area Pumpkinfest. This free event will include foot massages, manicures, hair braiding and styling, and will provide fun, light exercise and socialization. Ruth Burnham, an area beautician, will be our guest. The open Spa Day is from 1pm until 3pm. Reservations are requested. Call 334-7604.
Both events are open to area seniors. However, space is extremely limited so guests should call and reserve their spot. For more information about these events or The Meeting Place, call 334-7604.
