The Meeting Place Celebrates a Hawaiian Luau
Newport – It was cold outside on Thursday, snow was blowing, and the temperature hovered around 12 degrees. But at The Meeting Place, beach balls, grass skirts, and Hyacynth hairpieces were the order of the day.
Seniors attending the adult day program were thinking more about the sun and sand than about the frost on the windows. The Beach Boys were singing Surf City, and the entire facility was dressed up for a Hawaiian celebration. In the indoor volleyball game, the Cruisers crushed the opposition Surfers. Hula hoops, badminton, and other games were part of the party.
Lunch included Emeril’s Cowboy Hawaiian Steak, wild rice, vidalia onion tart, and banana splits.
The Meeting Place is a state-certified Adult Day Service providing daytime care and socialization for seniors. The Meeting Place is located in an historic building at 100 Second Street in Newport. The program is part of Northeast Kingdom Homecare, Inc., which provides in-home caregiving services throughout the area.
