Over 35 Seniors Attended Fourth of July Barbecue

NEWPORT - Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Chicken, and a cake shaped like a swimming pool were available to over 35 seniors attending the annual Fourth of July barbecue at The Meeting Place in Newport.

With the hot weather outside, people spread out, some preferring the outdoor tables under umbrellas, and others sitting inside. The grill on the front lawn sent out the alluring smell of hamburgers and chicken, and Eric Smith, cook at The Meeting Place rounded out the meal with assorted salads and side dishes.

"Our goal is always to have a little fun while providing a safe and comfortable place for our clients," Said Debra Hunt, President of Northeast Kingdom Homecare. "Our summer picnic and open house is becoming an annual affair, as we all have a good time."

Andre Geoffry provided live music and all the seniors were dancing and singing to a variety of songs. The music was set up in the lobby so that people sitting inside or outside could hear. People were tapping their toes, clapping their hands and dancing.

The Meeting Place currently has openings in its schedule for Seniors who need daytime care or who could benefit from socialization. As a state certified program, TMP is prepared to work with clients with a variety of needs and health issues. For individuals or family members who are interested in getting involved with this program, please call 334-7604 for more information.
