NEWPORT – Bakers are needed to create Gingerbread Houses for the 1st Annual Gingerbread House Festival, December 17-23, sponsored by Northeast Kingdom Homecare, Inc. This holiday event will benefit the senior activity fund at The Meeting Place.
Individuals and commercial establishments are invited to submit their Gingerbread Houses and compete for recognition and prizes. All Gingerbread Houses will be judged by the public with awards going to best overall, as well as best in the junior division (schools or children under 16), best in the adult division, and best commercial entry. Prizes and certificates will be awarded.
If you are an old hand at making Gingerbread Houses, or you want to try it for the first time, now is the time to make your plans. Houses will be presented and open to the public in a festive display at The Meeting Place during the week of December 17th through the 23rd.
Gingerbread Houses will be judged on the basis of appearance, creativity, difficulty, and precision. Each Gingerbread House entry should be created on a firm base (e.g., ½” or ¾” plywood), no larger than 3ft wide by 3ft long. Each house must be made entirely of edible products with the exception of the base. No artificial display materials, such as Styrofoam or interior lighting are to be used in the construction or display of the entry.
All Gingerbread Houses must be brought to The Meeting Place on December 16th where they will be put on public display From December 17th until December 23rd. Houses can be picked up on December 24th.
There is no cost to enter your creation. Call 334-7604 to pre-register, receive the rules, and reserve a space for your house.
