Meeting Place Seniors Challenge the Corn Maze

NEWPORT – In what has become an annual tradition, seniors at The Meeting Place adult day service got lost in The Corn Maze at the River of Life Ranch in Irasburg. Eleven seniors and three staff-members found their way through the cornfields and enjoyed other activities in the fall sunshine.

Dottie Bingham found her way through the maze. “I was just happy to make it through and ring the bell at the end,” she said.

Even the up and down furrows of a corn field didn’t stop Sharon Bullis whose wheelchair spokes were tangled with corn stalks. Eleanor Walbert enjoyed the petting zoo, particularly the horses. Everyone enjoyed a wagon ride.

Led by Jennifer Barnes, Activities Coordinator at The Meeting Place, the group had a lunch of sandwiches, macaroni salad, and fruit squares. The meal, prepared by The Meeting Place was served at picnic tables. A small campfire was nearby to take the chill out of the air.

The Meeting Place is an adult day program that provides services for seniors who may need a little help throughout the day. We are committed to providing a home-like atmosphere which promotes a sense of purpose, hope, and community. A day at our house is filled with activities. Music, gardening, games and light exercise are just a few of them. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are served in the community room where tables can also be used for games and other group activities.
